Squishy the Tiny whale

Here in Holland we have this holiday called “Koningsdag”. On this day we celebrate the birthday of our king, and each town holds its own jumble sale. Everybody sells their old junk, children have made all kinds off stuff like cupcakes, bracelets, and so on. I thought it would be a fun idea to sell some of my creations, and I really felt like doing a quick project. So, I made a little whale. My best friend compeletely fell in love with him when I showed him to her, and the way we dandled him kinda looked like Dory and her Squishy in the movie Finding Nemo. That’s why I shall call him Squishy, and he shall be mine, and he shall be my Squishy.

Squishy is made with a 5mm hook, but you can make him with any hook and matching yarn.

Used abbreviations:

– sc – single crochet

– hdc – half double crochet

– inc – increase (2 single crochet in 1 stitch)

– dec – decrease (crochet 2 stitches together)

– MR – magic ring

– sl st – slip stitch

till end – till end of round

Squishy’s pattern

His body

Mr 6

1. Inc around

2-6. Sc around

7. Sc 4, dec, sc till end

8. Sc 3, 2 x dec, sc till end

9. Sc 3, dec

Fill Squishy’s body. Put in a little bit more filling, and divide the extra filling over the tail later. The hole will be to small to stuff in more then the body is done.

10. Sc 2, 2 x dec, sc till end

11. Sc 2, dec , sc till end

12. Sc around

Sl st and fasten off. Close the remaining hole. Divide the filling by kneading the body a bit or pull the filling into the tail with your hook.

His tailfins (make 2)

Chain 4. Sc in 2nd stitch from hook, hdc 2. Fasten off and leave a long end for sewing.

His sidefins (make 2 of these as well)

Chain 3. Sc 2, starting in 2nd stitch of hook. Fasten off and leave a long end for sewing.

The side with the decreases is the downside of Squishy’s tail. Sew the big fins at the sides of the top of his tail. The small fins need to be sewn to his side, between round 4-5. Use my pictures for placement. I used a permanent marker to draw his eyes, mouth and blowhole.

Variation: instead of using the side with decreases as the underside, use it as the upside. Your Squishy will have a different curve. His tail will be bowing down instead of being lifted.

Good luck making your own Squishy! If you have any questions about the pattern, or just want to show me your Squishy (I’d really like to see the result πŸ˜‰ ), send me an email! This pattern is for personal use only. You may sell any whales you make, but please do not sell this pattern nor claim it as your own.
